Weight-loss from chromium are reported to be from both
an appetite suppressant and a metabolizer and
increasing one's chromium intake causes an increase in
metabolic rate to bum more calories
instead of retaining them.
Another study
report that chromium picolinate was found to be
clastogenic, meaning that it damaged chromosomes, but
this finding doesn't necessarily mean that it is
carcinogenic, or a definite substance or agent that
produces cancer "This is the first test to directly
.. carcinogenity to a form of chromium that is used as
a supplement; it predicts, not proves that chromium
picolinate is a human carcinogen," says Stearns. "We
present this work as a call for further study; it is
not a final answer.
Researchers admit their findings are
inconclusive
The nutritional trivalent form of chromium (Cr+3) is
noted for its low toxicity particularly when
administered orally.
In clinicaI studies
with chromium picolinate, noadverse effects have been
noted; these studies, todate, have used daily amounts
of 200 or 400 mcg chromium. In light of the fact that
millions of people are now using the supplement, the
virtual absence of reported side effects is quite
encouraging.
The natural status and minimal toxicity of
the CrPA constituents may be responsible for the lack of toxicity or side effects noted in research.
