Nutrisystems Diet

Review by Joann Bally CSCS

Nutrisystems has been around for 30 years. It was previously a brick-and-mortar operation, but now seems to operate mostly on the Internet. Nutrisystems’ diet is a prepared meal plan. They have programs for men and women and people over 60, as well as diabetics and those who want to eat vegetarian. You enter your information and they advise you what to eat. You choose what you like from categories, order the meals, and get them delivered to your door. Membership is free as is their newsletter, message boards, and the personal counseling. They make their money selling you food. Of course, the meals are portion (and calorie) countrolled. So if you buy all your food from them (except produce, which you are supposed to buy separately), you should lose weight. Other than adjusting some meals to be low on the glycemic index, they didn’t buy into the low carb fad, and the food seems nutritious. Meals don’t have to be refrigerated so you can take them to work or on vacation. The problem is few people want to buy prepared meals for the rest of their life. Sometime you just have to learn to eat properly and do it yourself, although you can use Nutrisystems for a kick start to a healthy eating and weight loss program.
