Summary:
Study reveals tiny particles of pollutants from fuels used for automobiles and industrial processes cause reactions in the respiratory system.
Nearly 800 people aged 40 or over in and around Los Angeles were studied and artery thickness was greatest in women over 60 and those taking cholesterol-lowering drugs.
The pollution causes the body to produce oxidants which then triggers inflammatory reactions.
Conclusion: Be sure to exercise away from traffic & Industrial plants; early in the morning or later in the evening after rush hours; and never outside during high pollution alert days. You may also want to consider taking an antioxidant supplement.
