  • A European study followed people 70-90 years old for all cause and specific cause mortality
  • Mediterranean diet, moderate alcohol use, physical activity, and nonsmoking were all associated with reduced risk of death from heart disease and cancer
  • The same factors were associated with reduced risk of all-cause mortality.

    Conclusion:
    Adherence to a Mediterranean diet and other healthy lifestyle habits is associated with over 50% lower rate of mortality in individuals 70-90.

    Note: Mediterranean diet emphasizes whole grains, fruit, vegetables, nuts, olive oil
