Summary:
Factors related to mortality were studied in 17,748 postmenopausal women
Current smoking, systolic blood pressure in the highest vs. lowest quintile, and poor results in a test of physical function were among modifiable risk factors
Elevated waist-hip ratio was associated with higher risk of mortality, but obesity (BMI over 35 vs. 18.5-25) was associated with lower risk
Conclusion: Simple measures can be used to group postmenopausal women into high and low risk of dying, but clinical trials are needed to show if modifying factors reduces risk
