Summary:
Do those machines that replicate Electronic Muscle Stimulation really work, and to what extent? If they do work then why doesn't everyone use these instead of going to the gym as surely it will work out cheaper in the long term. Finally, if the machines do work, then which is the best one to buy?
ANSWER:
The electronic muscle stimulation machines are primarily used for medical purposes to rehabilitate muscle and nerve injuries. Someone then got the idea that if they were good for rehabbing injuries, they could also be valuable for muscle development. However, they are limited to causing the muscle to isometrically seize and then relax, so they do twitch, but there is no movement of any joint through any range of motion. In other words, stick to traditional weight training if you are looking for any kind of reasonable muscle development. We are currently developing weight training routines which will shortly be available through this site. Stay tuned.
