Summary:
I wonder if you could help me figure out why I'm so fat (60 lb overweight). It feels like I've tried every diet and exercise program out there.
ANSWER:
Your problem may be all those programs you tried. Weight loss is a very complicated isssue that can vary with individuals. Any program that promises everybody quick and lasting results is misguided is not outright fraudulent. If any of the programs really worked, there wouldn't be so many of them. In most cases, overweight is a result of a combination of poor eating habits, inactivity, and genetics. Your best bet is to cut back about 300 calories a day, a little more than a candy bar (this is from a normal diet, not a reducing diet that messes up your metabolism) and exercise an extra 200 calories, the equivalent of walking 2 miles a day. Concentrate on becoming more active in your everyday activities, and after you're in the groove, add about half an hour of weight training twice a week. Be patient and give it time to work (months, not weeks). This is an important and not uncommon problem and we will be discussing it more later. Good luck.
