Two groups of men, 30 and 62 years old, participated in a 10-week strength-power training program
Heavy-resistance exercise test (4 sets of 10 rep squats) was used to evaluate hormonal response
Younger group had higher total and free testosterone and insulin-like growth factor, although the older group, after training, showed significant increase in testosterone in response to exercise and decrease in resting cortisol
Conclusion:
Older men respond to resistance training with an enhanced hormonal profile, but the response is different from that of younger men
