  • A study of 117 healthy men and women aged 59-77, published in Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, showed subjects' aerobic capacity, rather than calories burned through exercise, was linked to lower heart disease risk
  • All study participants exceeded the recommended amount of exercise of 200 calories/day, but only those with high aerobic fitness showed a reduction in many heart disease risk factors
  • Moderate activity is still valuable, helping to control weight and prevent such diseases as type 2 diabetes

    Conclusion:
    With doctor's approval, some older people may be better off with vigorous exercise
