    WATER PLUS CARBOHYDRATE HELPS ENDURANCE

    Summary:

  • Endurance trained cyclists performed moderate exercise in warm conditions for 122 minutes
  • Subjects were given water with or without carbohydrate or just carbohydrate
  • Maximal neuromuscular power was similar in all trials at 26 minutes but declined at the end about 15% in carb and placebo trials, about 10% in water only, and about 7% in water plus carb trial

    Conclusion:
    During moderate exercise in warm environment, water plus carbohydrate attenuates decline in maximal power more than water alone, and carbohydrate alone has no effect
