  • Subjects were given diets with different kinds, but the same amount of fats, and their cholesterol measured against a baseline diet enriched with butter, which has a high saturated fat content
  • LDL cholesterol was reduced 12%, 11%, 9%, 7%, and 5% respectively, after diets enriched with soybean oil, semiliquid margarine, soft margarine, shortening, and stick margarine
  • Ratios of HDL to total cholesterol were lowest after consumption of soybean oil and semiliquid margarine and highest after stick margarine

    Comment:
    Consumption of products low in trans-fatty acids and saturated fat is beneficial for cholesterol levels
