    Summary:

  • Female college athletes were assigned to high intensity resistance exercise with or without background music
  • Beta endorphins increased significantly in both groups postexercise
  • There was no significant difference in endorphin levels between background music and no music groups

    Conclusion:
    There appears to be no physiological reason for relying on music to aid resistance exercise, but there may be psychological advantages for some people
