Weight Loss or Gain

Source: New England Journal of Medicine
Summary:
Overweight participants were assigned to one of 4 diets with differing percentages of fat, protein, and carbohydrates in a 2-year study
Average weight loss after 2 years was 4 kg (8.8 lb) with little difference between high and low fat, high and low protein, or high and low carb diets
Calorie prescription was 750/day less than baseline and physical activity goal was 90 minutes moderate exercise/week
Conclusion: Reduced calorie diets led to weight loss regardless of macronutrient emphasis (or, as we like to say, calories in – calories out)
