  • Trained cyclists cycled for 2 hours at 70% maximum, followed by a performance ride, after eating high or low glycemic index meals as randomly assigned.
  • The cyclists were given glucose throughout the trial
  • Despite differences in blood glucose, free fatty acids, and insulin before the trial, carbohydrate oxidation during exercise was the same

    Conclusion:
    When carbohydrate is ingested during exercise, pre-exercise carbohydrate has little effect on metabolism or performance.
