Men age 40-75 who were free of cardiovascular disease were tested for a measure of vitamin D in their blood and followed for 10 years
Those deficient in vitamin D were found to be at greater risk of heart disease, even after adjusting for other risk factors
Moderate deficiency showed some risk
Conclusion: Low blood levels of vitamin D were associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease in men
