    Mediterranean Diet proves heart healthy

  • Lyon Diet Heart study in France followed 600 men and women who had had a first heart attack.
  • Those consuming a Mediterranean diet (rich in fruits, vegetables, cereals, fish and beans) had a 50 to 70 percent lower rate of recurrent heart disease than those who ate a Western diet.
  • The Mediterranean diet in the study closely matched the American Heart Association recommended guidelines.

    Comment:
    Scientists also believe some of the benefits may lie in the types of oils consumed.
