Summary:
Middle aged men who did not exercise were assigned to a fairly rigorous program of aerobic exercise for 1 hour, 5 times a week, for 3 months
For the study, published in Metabolism, they were told to eat enough to compensate for calories expended, so they would not lose weight
At the end of the study, subjects had lost about an inch at the waist and had lower levels of an inflammatory chemical produced by fat
Conclusion: Regular exercise has health benefits even without weight loss.
