Summary:
Men age 60-79 were followed for 6 years to examine predictors of mortality
Underweight men had very high mortality rates; high waist circumference and waist-to-hip ratio were associated with increased mortality; and high muscle mass was linked to lower mortality
Combination of above average muscle mass and smaller waist showed lowest mortality risk
Conclusion: Smaller than average waist and larger than average muscle mass for age predicted longer life in older men
