    Lack of Sleep Hurts Heart

    Source: Reuters

    Summary:

  • Lack of sleep is linked to increased risk of death from heart disease, according to a study presented at the annual conference of the British Sleep Society
  • A 17-yr analysis found subjects who cut sleep time from 7 to 5 hours or less were at 1.7 times more risk of death from all causes and more than twice as likely to die from heart disease
  • Mortality also increased with those who slept over 9 hours, but other disease factors could be involved

Conclusion: Lack of sleep is associated with risk of dying from heart disease; consistently sleeping around 7 hr/night is best for health
