Summary:
Lack of sleep is linked to increased risk of death from heart disease, according to a study
presented at the annual conference of the British Sleep Society
A 17-yr analysis found subjects who cut sleep time from 7 to 5 hours or less were at 1.7 times
more risk of death from all causes and more than twice as likely to die from heart disease
Mortality also increased with those who slept over 9 hours, but other disease factors could be
involved
Conclusion: Lack of sleep is associated with risk of dying from heart disease;
consistently sleeping around 7 hr/night is best for health
