    Summary:

  • Physical performance and grip strength were 5-10% lower in older adults who had low levels of vitamin D, in a study in Journal of Gerontology
  • Vitamin D is important in muscle function, and also contributes to bone health
  • Older adults are susceptible to low vitamin D because they may get less sun exposure and their skin is less effective in producing vitamin D

    Conclusion: Older adults who get insufficient vitamin D are at risk of poor physical performance and disability
