Overweight adults were assigned to 18 months of standard 1000 calorie/week expenditure exercise goal or high physical activity with goal of 2500 calories
High activity group had greater weight loss than standard group at 12 and 18 months, but average exercise levels dropped after study period and did not differ between groups at 30 months
Those who maintained high levels of exercise had significantly greater weight loss at 30 months
Comment: High levels of activity result in weight loss but seem hard to maintain
