Summary:
With E.coli on everyone's mind after the latest spinach outbreak, most folks are avoiding spinach altogether which even by washing cannot kill E.coli, salmonella or listeria bacteria.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved a virus-cocktail spray of bacteriophages (LMP-102) that is meant to destroy a specific bacterium.
The FDA approved the spray for meats such as hot dogs, sliced ham, turkey and cold cuts and will be on labels as soon as early 2007.
Comment: Now that sounds like a scary proposition that will come with some risks. By the way it won't prevent E.coli bacterium.
