    POST-WORKOUT CHICKEN SOUP

    Source: Journal of Applied Physiology

    Summary:

  • Subjects who were dehydrated to a loss of 2.5% body weight were rehydrated over 2 hours
  • Groups were rehydrated with either water, chicken broth, a carbohydrate-electrolyte drink, or chicken noodle soup
  • Groups who were given broth and soup (which were much saltier than the carb drink) returned to normal plasma volume at the end of the period but the other groups were still dehydrated

    Conclusion:
Including sodium in rehydration beverage and consumption of sodium-containing liquid meal increases fluid retention and improves plasma volume
