Summary:
Study shows certain diesel-fueled engines are causing over 73,000 asthma attacks, about 5,700 heart attacks and nearly 4,400 premature deaths in children.
The study used an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) formula for calculating health and economic impacts and is meant to be used by trade groups to influence the EPA to follow through on their promises of new regulations.
According to the trade groups executive director, locomotives and marine engines are the largest and most dangerous under-regulated sources of pollution in the US.
Conclusion:: The EPA officials have agreed that this is a problem and that they will propose the new regulations later this year.
