    High Carb Diet Can Lead to Weight Loss

    Summary:

  • Participants were men and women, average age 66, with impaired glucose tolerance
  • Each was assigned to high carbohydrate, high carb plus exercise, or control diet (41% fat, 14% protein, 45% carb) and allowed to eat as much as they wanted
  • High carb plus exercise and hi carb groups lost more weight (av 4.8, 3.2 kg) and body fat (3.5, 2.2%) than controls (0.l kg, 0.2%)

    Conclusion: Low fat, high complex carbohydrate diet resulted in losses of body weight and body fat in older men and women
