Let's face it. We don't need another talking head reminding us of how tough
times are during what has been dubbed "The Great Recession 2009," which to
most is actually another Real Depression. Oh yeah, in case you haven't
heard or read the headlines, the recession is over (10-29-09). Right.
"It was the best of times...it was the worst of times" is how the famous,
seemingly visionary,
Dickens' novel began over 200 years ago. How it appears reflective of these
modern days...it is obviously a reoccurring theme throughout history.
How can it be said then that during these depressive times of job losses,
terrorism, lack of health care, 2 wars, climate changes, economy...is the
Best of Times? It may seem an extreme stretch of the imagination to most of
us to see how the current multiple crisis' times can be an opportunity. But
it is!
"Change is Opportunity" is a long-standing proven concept that achievement,
loss, acceptance, refusal...whether immediately positive or negative in an
individuals life offers a new perspective and chance to make necessary
adjustments.
Recovery in such times may need a complete overhaul of what the word
"recovery" actually means. Recovering from the frivolous, unimportant,
facades of what many thought were the norms, may bring a little more reality
into the mix and help assist "The Recovery".

Consider this: Those who were least affected by our current economic crisis
lived a modest lifestyle without a lot of extras (often because they either
could not or would not afford them). Throughout the boom of the past decade
or so, they had no 401k, didn't buy into the housing bubble, wouldn't
purchase expensive vehicles...they lived within their means.
This type of mindset is simplified by concentrating on core values of what
makes us happy and with
whom we want to regularly surround ourselves. Realism is one important key
to success in any long-term endeavor along with actually being in it for the
long haul.
A great place to begin is take charge of your health and fitness. It is
under your control, and it really doesn't cost anything more. You feel
improvements right away, and this is an empowering feeling.
People are finally realizing the benefits of a simple life based on doing
what makes sense, what feels right and how that type of existence benefits
not just them, but all those around them. These are those who are taking
our current worst times as an opportunity to change and improve their life.
That is what can make this the Best of Times.
