Since I haven't watched TV most of my adult life, along with many other shows I have never watched is the Oprah Winfrey Show. I understand that she has completed a great number of high-profile humanity endeavors and successfully achieved what very few could. There is no question that she will continue on a path that proves to be helpful for many others, and she deserves full recognition for these achievements.
That being said, when it comes to health & fitness, and I mean no offense, she is far from an expert and has had an ongoing personal battle with her own weight, which is common for us regular people too. And as much as it may seem an inspiration for her to get into a marathon, it really does most people a disservice to see this as an example of the right path. Sure, it will create a media frenzy of reporting, but jogging a marathon is not a realistic or recommended approach for 9 of 10 folks who need to get more active each day.
I also understand she has created a high-profile name for her personal trainer, Bob Greene. This is understandable due to his proximity to the most-trusted Operah. We can't blame Bob for Operah's battles with weight, but it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to believe that he has any better solutions than the next health advocate, and I wouldn't expect him to be any more successful in leading anyone on the right path. Believe me, these faces come and go.
For as long as there has been television, there has been some celebrity toting a product to improve your body shape. At some point we have to say enough is enough and ask that only true, proven health professionals’ advice, which has not changed since man has studied the health sciences, be heard. Get some exercise each day, eat less fat, and fewer calories and processed and fast foods while eating more healthy fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
Isn't that simple enough? There is no reason to get caught-up in the next trend or plan that will work only for as long as you are reminded or are motivated to do so. Health comes from a simple lifestyle. So live simply, not from celebrity to celebrity.
