Aerobic/Cardiovascular exercise. Thirty or so minutes a day or every other day -- running, biking, rowing, etc.
Also, you have to remove fatty foods (and foods high in sugars) from your diet.
You can do your ab exercises (like crunches) to tone the muscles in the abdominal area, but you won't see the muscles until the fat's gone. And doing crunches won't remove the fat.
Also, if you put on more muscle, this muscle can burn more calories and burn off some of that fat. So, consider some weight training.
Just my amateur opinion.
