i would suggest to start a walking program which will be easy to start, stick with and you can build up to weights after a "getting used to it" period.
--start finding ways to add walking to wherever you can in your day to day (take the kids!)
--begin a regular time that you can walk 3 days/wk for 30-40 minutes.
--after a couple of months, buy some 5 and 10 lb dumbbells or join a gym and start a lifting program.
--and always keep walking as Option 1.
