You say that you are a heavy eater; do you not see the problem? You have to eat less or exercise more to burn off fat, and a pot belly is still fat.
Situps aren't going to do it for you. Instead, spend the time you would have done the situps, walking around the block, or walking up stairs; something to burn energy over your whole body. You can't spot reduce by doing situps.
You're going to have to cut back on your total food intake, spread your current meals out into smaller ones, and get out there and exercise.
