I've been working my abs for several years now as I am involved in various sports, including wrestling, which require much abdominal strength. The excercise that I found to be most helpful is the ab slide. You don't have to buy one that has all the fancy excessories. The first one that I used was just a piece of plastic through a lawn mower wheel and it worked great. About 20-30 reps will keep ya burnin pretty good.
