Isometrics are simply resistance exercise,using antagonistic muscles as the resistance, instead of weights.
You are still contracting muscles, not lengthening them. You still need to stretch those muscles to maintain flexibility.
Otherwise, isometrics can be a useful addition to your exercise program, particularly when you can't get to a gym.
