That's exactly how it works. You've got two short-term fuels that give you about 1-10 seconds of intense exercise (up to 30 seconds in you're taking creatine). Then you've got another one that gives you another 1-3 minutes. After that oxygen is required to grab fuel from the long-term supplies.
