I'm wondering what affect sugar and salt have on my
diet and how I should
use them along with my excercise and diet plan to
successfully lose weight.
Salt is found in many foods naturally, so very little extra is
needed to be added. An excess of salt in our diet causes
water retention and
even potential high blood pressure. So, as you can see,
keeping sodium at
relatively low levels (around 2500mg. a day) is both a
good health choice as
well as a good diet choice. Sugar should be avoided in
processed form, that
is, white table sugar. However, also realize that
processed sugar is in most
of our sweet confections from doughnuts to root beer.
Sugar is high in
calories even though it has no fat. Therefore, don't be
fooled that low fat
claims on dessert items means that they are not
fattening. Calories are
calories and the body has to burn them no matter where
they come from. If you
need some sweetness in your diet to keep yourself sane
try fresh fruit in
moderation. You'll be surprised at how satisfying it can
be. Good luck.
That's it for this time,
