I found out 6 months ago that I have IBS. Since then I have gained 1
stone in weight. I am not allowed carbohydrates so cannot eat potatoes,
rice, pasta, or cakes. Please can you help me lose weight as I am desperate
to have the energy to go to the gym again as at the moment I hardly have the
energy for work let alone the gym.
Is your diet relieving your IBS symptoms? Have you seen a dietician? I
am not a doctor and cannot give you medical advice, but there are 2 things I
suggest you discuss with your health practitioner. First: Do you really
have to avoid all carbohydrates? Carbs are the body's preferred energy
source and are found in fruits, vegetables, grains, and dairy products.
Often, if you're sensitive to, say, wheat, you can still eat oat products or
rice. It's unusual to avoid all carbs. Second: What is the cause of your
weight gain? Is it fluid retention, inactivity, eating too much fat, or
maybe underactive thyroid or similar problem?
For exercise, try to get back to the gym, even if it's only for 10 minutes
at a time. Walk on the treadmill, ride a stationary bike, or do light
weight training. Avoid strenuous or high impact activities for now. Work
up slowly. Learn some stress reduction techniques, maybe yoga. Be patient
and don't get discouraged.
That's it for this time,
