diet to cut out complex carbohydrates .
Hello
I am starting a new diet which says I have to cut out complex carbohydrates, but I was
wondering what do I replace them with in my normal diet?
thank you for your help from Harriet
Hello Harriet:
First, congratulations on taking the effort to improve your health! The foods you eat are just as important to health and
longevity as exercising and staying fit. It sounds like you are starting another diet after having previously followed a
different diet. Let's be sure we are using the same terms:
Your "normal diet" is what you choose to eat each day. Now, you may have either "good" dietary habits
(i.e. variety of lower fat foods including grains, many fruits and vegetables) or "poor" habits (i.e. less fruit/vegetables,
higher fat & calorie foods with lower nutritional values). Most often peoples normal diet changes by going
for periods of improved food choices followed by a period of time where they take less
precautions/planning & make poor choices. Then back again and the patterns continue throughout life.
For nearly 20 years people have talked to me about the latest diet they are following. And, to this day the only people
who are still eating the same diet are the ones who decided to follow good eating practices, not restrictions
based on some new theory (that was in reality concocted more for book sales than improving your health).
If I thought it would genuinely help you to answer your question directly, I would. It's just that in a few years
another question about another failing, new diet would arise and nobody would have learned anything and my
time would be wasted on a fad diet that if it works, is just for a short time (which will not "jump start"
a new you or new body). Diets will only fail you if they are not based on sound nutritional advice
that include good dietary habits that you can follow for a lifetime. If you really want to succeed in becoming
and staying healthy, this is the best answer to your inquiry.
That's it for this time,
