My boyfriend has been taking supplements for bodybuilding.
Unknown, From: New Jersey :
My boyfriend has been taking supplements for bodybuilding and I'm
afraid that they are harmful. He has been taking cyodine and glutamine.
What do these products do and are they safe?
Glutamine is an amino acid, a constituent of protein, that is made by
the body. The theory is that with strenuous exercise the body's supply is
not sufficient to prevent muscle damage, so some bodybuilders take glutamine
suppplements. It appears to be safe. I can't find any references to
cyodine. Could it be creatine? Creatine is the most popular supplement
among bodybuilders, and it is safe and usually effective. Refer to our
article archives: Is Creatine Safe? and scroll through our forums for more
information. If your boyfriend is indeed taking something else, you might
suggest he try creatine instead. There are over 800 supplements marketed to
bodybuilders; most of them are useless and some can be harmful, so caution
is justified.
That's it for this time,
