weight lifting for baseball players.
I wonder what would be a good weightlifting program for baseball players in regards to
improving hitting power and arm strength. Also, are there are any exercises that
would be good for improving arm strength?
brooks
Hello Brooks;
Instead of suggesting specific exercises that many qualified trainers can assist
you with, my advice is to concentrate on improving yourself as an overall athlete.
What I mean by this is that in every sport athletes that are overall physically stronger
and in good cardiovascular condition excel in their sport. To condition your body specifically
for baseball would most likely include:
Improve Power
Baseball, like many sports involves every part of the body. Weight lifting improves your
overall strength and will give you more power, especially if your concentration is on full body
work outs. The key is to emphasize major muscles & major muscle groups (squats, Bench, Shoulder Press,
Legs, Arms...etc).
Specific Conditioning
Baseball requires short spurts of speed and all around strength. Running sprints
will improve your ability to run and run faster, but don't neglect jogging and/or biking
because these activities help improve endurance.
Other Cross Training Ideas
In addition to swinging bats & batting practice, you may want to try
to incorporate other activities like Swimming, Kayaking/Rowing and Golf.
Each of these use similar muscle groups in different ways.
That's it for this time,
