Indoors:
- On Day5, you replaced incandescent bulbs with florescent and looked at developing a long-term plan to replace appliances as soon as possible
- On Day 6, you fixed all of your plumbing leaks, upgraded faucets and water-using appliances.
Now try green cleaning products for dishes/sinks/soaps/mold removal and for controlling ants, roaches and rodents to lessen your personal and your pets’ exposure to chemicals. If used furniture will not do, search for eco-friendly woods, with as much recycled material as possible and made either locally or in a country with high eco-manufacturing standards. Preserving wood floors is better for dust control as well as lessening the use of rugs and carpets. Letting bedding air in the sun more often and using the sun to dry clothes provides considerable savings...and a free fresh scent deodorizer!
Outdoors:
When reviewing your lawn for an eco-yard, use appropriate landscaping for your region with an emphasis on grass & plant needs. Composting when possible allows food and organics to be used for fertilizers in your yard or the community. Cleaning up pet waste and using natural bug & weed sprays prevents residues from ending up in our waterways. Backyard mechanics with garages full of cleansers, solvents, old paint and other hazardous wastes should be sure to have these items properly disposed of and replaced with natural products when appropriate.
Push Mower-Revived!
Get some exercise and save gas & lessen noise pollution by replacing power mowers with the push-mower. These mowers are easier to use than many would think and you can firm up your legs, butt, arms and wasteline all at the same time!
Overall:
Look into alternative energy options in the upcoming section (Day 23) for producing energy from wind and solar.
