Summary: Use your car less by walking, scooting or biking while seeking opportunities to take carpools & public transportation more. Read More
All of us can use our cars less. This is one simple change that can dramatically improve your life both economically and health wise. By making a commitment to leave your car at home at least 1-2 times each week, your life will become more interesting as you interact with the world around you instead of concealing yourself behind the wheel. It saves you money on wear and tear and gas as well as being less stressful and a better use of your valuable time.
Carpool or "buddy up" with another driver to alternate driving to/from work. If your commute is too long to walk or bike, drive closer to your destination and park a distance that is more reasonable and go from there. Buses & trains are able to accommodate bikes in most cases, and this may be a solution to the inconvenience of being dropped off a distance from your destination.
When contemplating trips, decide if it is necessary for you to drive. If yes, then get more done and do several stops or errands at the same time...and ask others if they need anything. Coordinating trips with friends and family is as simple as improved communication and makes all the sense in the world. If you like going for a Sunday drive, consider switching to a more invigorating Sunday walk or bike ride.
