Estimates of 100 million trees are used each year for junk and bulk mail. When you include the printing, transportation of literature and additional manpower for getting them into your mailbox, the impact of wasted paper products is enormous...it just does not make sense to continue this. Tell your regular places of business, like banks, insurance companies and other stores & services, you do not want to receive unsolicited literature or brochures in the mail when you give out your address. When filling out forms, both off and online, be sure to check the box that you DO NOT want any updates or offers sent.
Much more business can be done through the Internet, and it is becoming more common for businesses to want to sign you up for electronic billing. In many instances, it may be fine to tell your bank, credit card and phone company to have monthly statements, invoices and bills sent electronically to use less paper.
Sign up for Direct Marketing Association (www.dmaconsumers.org/cgi/offmailing) to be removed from lists.
